637 Patients' Perceptions of Complications Following Thyroidectomy

Abstract Aim The aim of this study was to assess patients' understanding the risks thyroid surgery and whether their improved following implementation a pre-operative risk-tool. Method Single centre prospective cohort between June 2019-August 2019. All patients that underwent were recruited. Patients had either standard process consent or provided with risk-tool information leaflet. Post-operatively all questionnaire determine involved in having surgery. Data analysed using GraphPad Prism v6. Results 51 thyroidectomy recruited; 28 23 undergoing processes poor magnitude post-operative risk; median score for risk 4.5/10 (2-7) versus 8/10 (4-10) receiving proportion intervention non-intervention participants giving correct answer reached statistically significant difference 50% questions asked (P < 0.001). Conclusions It is imperative are made aware both rare events but also frequency which occur so they properly informed prior consenting.
